Bio:

Cienn lived with her father in their apartment near one of Gotham’s many slums. Her father, Charlie, worked from home as a clerk for one of the office buildings downtown by organizing and coding their website and files. Her mother, Diane, is always traveling the countryside and never around and has expressed frank dislike for her father and for her daughter.

Cienn found her father dull and boring and disliked her mother for leaving and not at least trying to take care of her. Charlie found his daughter too unreliable and a burden on his life. Diane finds both of them distasteful and claims that she never wanted to have Cienn in the first place; and her odd name was supposedly given just to spite her father, who said that it would be a stupid name.

On a rare occasion where her father had to work at the office, he was kidnapped by the Riddler, and he was killed on camera when he hung himself. Since Diane had no interest in her daughter and did not answer calls from anyone, Cienn struck out on her own and grieved for her father. Because of her father’s death and his lack of leaving a will behind, she lost the apartment and had to move out. For a brief period of time she was on her own, until she met a boy named Asher  and decided to be kind to him. They’ve become friends since then and he may have more intimate feelings for her. Not long after meeting him, she was able to move into a friend’s apartment, along with Asher, who had nowhere else to go. While there she had a vivid dream of a woman in a far-off land, and the dawn of her powers was created. She discovered that she was an umbrakinetic, with the ability to open dimensional gateways and travel to far off worlds. With Asher, she traveled to a strange world, where they did eventually find the woman in her dreams, who told them her name was Saylin. Cienn named this strange world the Blight.

They brought her back and she slowly began to unfurl her own story. Cienn, Saylin, and Asher met up with an ex-military marine/not-doctor named Daxter, who accompanied them, mostly driven by his fascination with Saylin and her people, to this other world.

They fought through an intense war that included gods and goddesses, until Asher was separated from the group. A being of immense power calling itself Spim, killed Asher and then sent him and his soul back to Earth, effectively removing him from the fight. Cienn and Daxter, with help, were able to free several goddesses in this other realm and together they were able to defeat Spim, who had been harnessing the power of the other gods and goddesses for his own gain, but then he revealed that he was the only reason for Cienn’s existence. He was the one behind her creation, and then he attempted to kill her once more. After she collapsed he changed her skin and eye color so she “would look more like her mother” and slightly expanded her abilities, and then sent her and Daxter back home with the last of his energy before his host died.

After returning home, Asher, feeling neglected and repeatedly abandoned by Cienn and visited repeatedly by Spim, acted out of anger and was given new pyrokinetic abilities by Spim, and used them to lash out at Cienn, who at the time was staying with her friend Victoria James. A short battle ensued in which Asher badly burned her back before she could vanish away from him. The damage was so intense that she appeared in the Blight beside some healing pools and managed to drag herself into those pools.

After healing, she avoided Asher at all costs, and Asher, realizing that Spim had manipulated him, went off the radar and vowed never to hurt Cienn again. The damage was already done, and left Cienn with trauma concerning fire.

Victoria’s alter-ego rose up, which called itself the Fox, and she began wanton killing innocent civilians. Cienn, distraught at losing the Victoria side of her friend, stalked the Fox and vowed to make her life as difficult as possible, with the ultimate intent of killing the Fox if that’s what it came to. She created shadow figures of people and sent them after the Fox, moved her weaponry or took it and hid it from her, and destroyed any lights around her. After several encounters, one in which Cienn was seriously injured, having been stabbed in the stomach and sent to the hospital; several days later the two had a final facedown.

Cienn had been using her powers for so long and so intensely that she had more than run out of energy, and using her abilities created a tax on her body. In this state, her skin is disturbingly pale, her veins are black, and her eyes seem to burn with an inner black fire. She attacked the Fox and strung her up, and then nearly died on the spot. The emotional struggle of seeing Cienn injured was enough for Victoria to beat the Fox mentality away from her and assert control once more, in time to administer medical aid to the wounded teenager.

Not long after regaining her friend, Victoria went missing without a trace. At first Cienn refused to believe that she just left, and so searched everywhere for her. Unable to find her after weeks of searching, she reluctantly gave up hope of ever finding her.

At nearly the same time, a terrorist blew up a large portion of the Narrows and then disabled their power. Taking advantage of the chaos, a human trafficking ring calling themselves the Fishers of Men series up in the East End and only a few days after the strike, Cienn was kidnapped by the human trafficking ring.

After being abducted and taken to a brothel, she attempted to escape and was informed that she had an explosive implanted in her neck along with all the other women in the brothel, that if any of them attempted to leave they’d explode and kill everyone else. After at first accepting her fate, Cienn realized there’s no way she could survive there and attempted to contact help on the outside. After watching one of the other girls have her head nearly torn off, she attacked and killed many of their security personnel before they attacked her and managed to tranquilize her. Once she was unconscious, she was taken to a house off-site and woke up naked in a bathtub, floating in the water with a man named Artem.

Artem had beaten her legs and lower torso while she slept with the purposeful intent of making her think that she may have been raped while she slept. After waking, he continued to try and touch her inappropriately throughout the next few minutes, until Cienn escalated and they fought. He revealed himself to be a powerful photokinetic and they clashed, until she managed to disable him. A helicopter pilot named Huey had witnessed their fight from above and landed nearby, then came and rescued Cienn.

After returning home, she moved into an apartment. Cienn invited her newfound friend, Ford to live with her in the apartment.

An orb appeared and kidnapped a large part of the inhabitants of the world, and Cienn along with many others were taken, until Superman saved them all from the orb. Ever since then she’s regarded Superman highly.

A rainbow portal opened up and Cienn traveled through to an ice planet. She suffered a variety of hardships alone in the frozen tundra before she realizes she’s so cold that the tears on her face have frozen onto her cheeks. After defeating a massive Goliath of a monster, she managed to open a portal home and slipped back through.

Months later and Cienn is contacted to be a part of a metahuman team that would work with ARGUS under the direction of Vibe. However, interior politics at ARGUS resulted in the team falling apart. Distraught at the loss, Cienn moved from Gotham to New York City.

Just before she moved, Cienn was taken from Earth and forced to fight in a tournament to the death, where she fought against several people and had to kill them, including the Green Lantern Guy Gardener. This deeply upset her and was a contributing factor to her moving out of Gotham. After the tournament was won, she was sent back home.

From late 2019 to early 2022 Cienn lived in New York. She figured out a way to breach through shadows into shadows from another world, and got stuck there, in the company of an alternate version of Cienn Sinclair. Their relationship is rocky at best. The alternate Cienn goes by the name of Eve and thinks Cienn is a disgrace for wanting to put so much effort so late in life into her martial arts and ignoring her power mastery.

Eve was born with her abilities and accidentally killed her parents as a toddler. She was taken in by a shadowy government structure that raised her to be an assassin that could take on persons of interest in case they went rogue. A contingency her Batman was aware of and was trying to stop.

Eve and Batman went head to head, but Batman is Batman. He got the better of her, despite her abilities, and warned her not to return to Gotham.

Heeding his words, she went to New York and remained there, until the events of Metal: Dark Knight made her Batman into the Batman Who Smiles. Realizing that Cienn was her best chance to get home, Eve asked her to break through again and take them both home. Cienn obliged.

Since then, Eve has kept low. Building a small reputation with mercenaries under the codename the Red Eclipse.

With New York becoming Eve’s stomping ground, Cienn returned to Gotham, where she spent several months homeless. Someone had voided her lease and stolen her money from her account, which left her with only the items she had in her pocket dimension.

Days later, while walking outside a bar, a crew of human traffickers attacked. A nearby stranger helped her out, a woman named El fought off the traffickers and saved Cienn.

The two of them teamed up and took out the traffickers, but the traffickers had a few metahumans on their side. After beating the initial wave, they retreated to El’s place. Days after hanging low, the metahumans managed to track them down. They attacked and one of them blinded Cienn with a spray of acid to her eyes.

El traveled to Vegas and killed the remainder of the human traffickers.

Meanwhile, Cienn, called to the Blight, went there and found a tomb, which she opened and released an entity that bonded to her. It sapped her powers and then disconnected from her, allowing her only to escape the Blight before she collapsed.

The entity fled. Cienn wss chastised by El on her return for being reckless, and the entity attempted to connect to El, before finding an easier host. The entity, named Nazurac, agreed with El, and eventually gained a body. Nazurac challenged Cienn to a duel in the Blight, where she’s strongest.

Cienn agreed and the two of them duked it out. Nazurac crushed both of Cienn’s legs and left her.

Cienn, at one of her lowest points, was blind, in a wheelchair, and on the streets. She contacted Vibe and told him about her injuries and the entity, which she feels is a threat to everyone.

Someone anonymously donated money to Cienn for her to get an experimental operation that may regain her sight. She went through with the operation, and with some healing of her own, regained her sight and weeks later regained the use of her legs.

Now able to fight, she and several others went to interrogate Nazurac and find the truth to his intentions. He had taken several others as a host and found an ancient relic on the planet that gave him additional powers. He claimed that he was only trying to return home.

Nazurac led them to the Blight where they found two pyramids. Cienn, Evie, Jules, and Vibe went through a series of tests before they found additional information about Nazurac.

They returned home, but Nazurac had other plans lurking in the background.

Cienn had been experiencing power fluctuations with her abilities, and she was losing the will to live. She succumbed to a deep sleep and her powers took over, gaining a sentience of their own. For several days she wreaked havoc in Gotham, appearing and disappearing at will and appearing as a wholly shadow-like figure with glowing white eyes.

She never seriously injured anyone while in this state.

After regaining her sense of self, she went to El and asked her to train her, and Cienn wanted to ensure that she could hold off anyone she had to.

Spim, now without a host, had attached himself to Nazurac to use him as a host. Spim talked to his worshipers in the Blight and sent them to bring him Cienn’s corpse, so that he could take her body as his own.

Cienn suffers a sudden aneurysm while eating a dinner she’d prepared with El. Unknown to her, Nazurac had caused it. She dies, suffering intense brain trauma. Aware of the death, a portal opened in El’s living room, and a few people entered. They claimed they wanted Cienn’s body, and El didn’t believe them. She allowed them to go through the portal if she could go last. They go through at the base of a city on a mountain in the Blight and they demand Cienn’s body. El runs and takes Cienn’s body to the morgue where it could be incinerated, as the cultists had told her that they needed the body to conduct a ritual to bring back a dead god Cienn had supposedly slain. El encounters several assassins and has to fight them off, then notices a spot of shadow that’s acting intelligently. Cienn’s body is dead but her consciousness has transferred to shadow, somehow.

Now aware that Cienn isn’t fully dead, El kills the assassins and takes Cienn off grid at a cabin somewhere outside of Gotham.

El, who has a powerful regenerative ability, is able to bring Cienn back to life by injecting her with a blood transfusion, and Cienn, with years of experience creating objects with shadows and an intensely powerful and descriptive imagination able to create complex 3D objects, creates a pump inside of her heart to start it going. The two work in unison, and Cienn revitalizes her body. The assassins come several days later and El suggests what they’re both thinking: they need to stop this at the source.

El, Cienn, Eve, Evie, Advantage, and Taki, form a group. El borrows a mech suit from a friend and they march into the Blight.

After an intense and elongated battle, Cienn and co emerge bloodied and battered and not victorious. The cultists they went in to fight had laid a trap for them and they’d found themselves heading off against legions of monsters.

El disavows herself of the group, warns Cienn never to talk to her again, and leaves with the mech.

Spim fully takes over Nazurac and returns at full power. Cienn teams up with Nettle, a long time friend of hers, Britney, and Vibe to take out Spim once and for all. They travel to the Blight, which they discover is a Dyson sphere. The structures along the sphere feed Spim power.

Nettle discovers a massive evacuation protocol aboard a gargantuan ARK structure and he rescues the many animals and human life forms on the Blight using a system of portals to gather them within the massive vehicle. The vehicle then travels to a massive ring structure in space where the animals and humans evacuate.

Meanwhile, Britney forges a blade that can cut through every version of Spim throughout the multiverse and kill all versions of him at once, while Cienn travels to a different structure in the Blight. While there, she finds a mass of cloning pods. Thinking about the debate on nature vs nurture, she takes a gamble and releases all the clones, taking them to Red’s cabin in Switzerland.

Cienn returns to Vibe, Britney, and Nettle, and the four of them fight Spim, who reveals his true form and title as the Keeper of Worlds. They’re teleported to his home world, an ancient world orbiting a nearly-dead star. Cienn, as Spim’s offspring, taps into his power source and uses it against him, burning her body with an unknown form of energy.

Vibe uses his powers just shy of what he fears might tear holes into the multiverse, while Nettle and Britney work their way through and into the chest cavity of the beast, where they discover it’s biomechanical origins and realize that Nazurac gave himself and his body to become this behemoth.

Using the sword, Britney obliterates the heart of the beast, striking at every Spim that exists in the multiverse to fully end his existence.

Their plan works. Spim dies, but not without cost. Cienn’s body has been badly injured, and she’s placed in a hospital.

She spends the next 5 months just healing, but there are other matters.

With the clones she released, Harrison, a metahuman with the ability to kill and consume other metahumans to absorb their powers, begins killing the clones and eating them. He’s been chosen by a new enemy, the Eyeless, to serve as his vessel.

Hannah and Red deal with the fallout with the clones while Cienn is indisposed, and in a showdown, Harrison and Red kill one another. Hannah has a brief and terrifying encounter with an entity sent by the Eyeless, a being that has far too many eyeballs.

Cienn’s interests include science, horror movies, technology, pop culture, and, briefly, casual tennis. She dislikes sandals, the color mustard yellow, and bees. Her greatest fear is fire.

ABILITIES:

Cienn has two abilities; umbrakinesis and dimensional travel. She can create a pocket dimension and “hide” in her own shadow, but her shadow must be visible, and once inside the shadow, it remains static against whatever object or surface it’s cast against. She cannot move it. Nothing can damage her from our dimension while she’s within the shadow. She can manipulate shadows, darkness, and has the ability to make the shadows tangible, along with the rest of the abilities typical of umbrakinesis. While her greatest fear is fire, her greatest weakness would be a luxokinetic. Cienn doesn’t know how powerful she is.

She has unlimited range with her shadows, able to move between shadows across entire continents.
