Soulmates
The Many Lives of Nox and Alex
Intoduction
Every soul is unique and made up of energy. That energy joins the cosmos to be reused in other forms when you die. But once connected, the energy wants to stay together. When reincarnation tears the soul in two, each piece searches for the other part of the whole, creating soulmates.
These are the many tales of Nox and Alex, whose destiny it is to find each other, but they can never be together. Can they solve the mystery separating them? Or are they lost forever in the endless loop of rebirth?
The Siren Phoenix
Magic swirled around the dark, hooded figure in the middle of the pentagram. Five idols sat on each point — a dragon, a damsel, a nightingale, a phoenix, and a diamond. The crude pentagram with hastily drawn images in each point glowed an eery shade of purple. The intensity of the color grew with each word spoken as the hooded figure waved his hands in a circle and over each idol.
His gravely voice echoed in the chamber as he chanted in a foreign language, “In the tongues of old, with shadows bold, I call upon the essence untold. From realms unseen, where darkness gleams, soul and spirit, split at the seams.”
He drew an athame across his palm and squeezed his fist over each of the idols. Droplets of blood fell to the base of each figure and power flooded the cave. The crystals all glowed with reds and oranges.
The air grew thick. The words slogged out of his mouth, but the hooded man kept going. In a pool in the center of the pentagram, the visage of the girl he loved shimmered with power. The liquid inside rippled with each syllable of the ritual.
Power flared. The shackled being squawked in distress, but the hum of the power overpowered the sounds of the creature. The dark hooded man extended an arm towards the creature.
It howled in pain as a shimmering sheet of blinding energy came from its chest. The crystals around erupted into a blinding white light as the soul ripped from the body.
In one quick motion, the dark hooded man reached out with his other hand and made a ripping motion. The shimmering sheet of the creature’s soul tore down the middle. The power absorbed by the crystals, the pool in the middle of the pentagram hummed with power.
“Bind her to me, forever more. Together forever and an eternity. Banish these souls, never to find happiness together.”
The man flung his arms apart and the two halves of the soul fluttered into the earth in opposite directions. A blinding white light overcame the room.
As the light faded from view, the room grew dark; the crystals returned to their translucent purple, and the cave was empty. No trace of the man, the creature, or the ritual remained. Only four small translucent pebbles remained — inside: a dragon, a damsel, a phoenix, and a nightingale.
